Lookout 93

WEB DESIGN  |  BRANDING  |  PRINT

During the early to mid 1900s, thousands of fire lookouts were constructed across the Western United States. As fire detection technology began to improve in the second half of the century, these lookouts fell out of use and many were abandoned or destroyed. Today there are only 93 left in the state of Washington. Last summer I hiked to several of these lookouts and became really fascinated with their history. When I went looking for information about them, I discovered a number of websites containing dry, technical facts, but nothing that conveyed the beauty and romance of these little cabins on the tops of mountains. I created Lookout 93 to document my own quest to hike to these last remaining lookouts, and to inspire others to get out into nature and discover a lost piece of Northwest history.
